Red Bus is trialling Christchurch’s first electric bus, for two months
Red Bus is introducing the city’s first electric bus (since 1922) on its urban routes from 4 March as part of a two-month trial.
The bus has a CRRC drive system, chassis and batteries, with the body built by Kiwi Bus Builders in Tauranga.
The trial will provide the Red Bus team with valuable first-hand operational experience of battery electric buses on Christchurch roads ahead of its three ADL Enviro200E electric buses arriving mid-2019.
Red Bus will monitor the bus’ performance through its telematics monitoring system which provides real-time feedback on acceleration, braking, cornering and speed; as well as driver and customer feedback.
